The Use of ChatGPT in a Flipped Learning-Based English Literature Class - Focusing on University Students’ Perceptions

This study investigates the integration of ChatGPT into a flipped learning-based English literature course, focusing on students’ perceptions and uses of the tool in group discussions. Drawing on survey data and reflective writings, the research identifies both pedagogical benefits and instructional challenges of ChatGPT in higher education. Reported benefits include diverse perspectives, efficiency, immediate feedback, informational support, and enhanced critical thinking. Concerns, however, center on plagiarism risks, factual inaccuracies, algorithmic bias, and reduced engagement. The findings indicate that while ChatGPT can function as a valuable supportive resource, its pedagogical impact depends on thoughtful instructional design and active instructor mediation. The study concludes by outlining implications for curriculum development and emphasizes the need for continued research on AI-assisted learning in literature education.
