This study examined job competencies of beauty industry professionals and analyzed differences based on general characteristics using descriptive statistics and comparative analyses. Among competencies, ‘skill enhancement’ scored highest (mean = 3.76), followed by ‘work habits’ (3.73), ‘interpersonal skills’ (3.67), and ‘attire and appearance’ (3.45). Women outperformed men overall, particularly in work habits and attire and appearance, while men scored higher in work habits. Those aged 40 and above excelled in job competencies, with individuals over 50 scoring highest in attire and appearance. Married individuals outperformed unmarried ones in all categories. Graduates of two-year colleges and universities, as well as those with relevant majors, had higher competency scores. Professionals outside Seoul and Gyeonggi-do performed better overall, while those in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do excelled in skill enhancement. Practitioners outperformed students. Professionals with over 10 years of experience scored higher in job competency, interpersonal skills, and skill enhancement. Larger workplaces and longer working hours correlated with better performance. This study provides empirical insights into factors influencing job competency development in the beauty industry. The findings contribute to designing targeted education and training programs and offer essential data for policies to enhance job competencies.
