Digital Beauty Design Inspired by the Characteristics of Chinese Yuefenpai (Calendar Posters)

This study investigates the historical characteristics of women's makeup in Chinese yuefenpai (calendar posters), a key element of traditional Chinese beauty culture. By integrating digital makeup technology, it aims to make traditional Chinese aesthetics more accessible beyond temporal and spatial limitations. The advancement of digital technology and the rise of remote environments have accelerated the convergence of cultural content and the arts. Consequently, digital makeup has emerged as a significant research field, serving as a bridge between tradition and modernity through creative expression. Given the rising demand for beauty content rooted in Traditional Chinese Heritage , this study explores ways to modernize yuefenpai makeup styles using digital techniques. This research categorizes yuefenpai makeup styles from the 1910s to the 1940s and extracts key digital makeup design elements. These elements are then applied using digital tools to recreate yuefenpai-inspired makeup in a contemporary context. Rather than merely replicating traditional aesthetics, this study seeks to reinterpret the value of historical beauty through a modern lens, expanding the possibilities for creative expression in digital makeup. The results found that integrating traditional beauty with modern technology can enhance the global competitiveness of the beauty industry. Furthermore,By merging digital makeup with intangible cultural heritage, it provides insights into how traditional aesthetics can serve as a foundation for contemporary design innovation. Ultimately, it is anticipated that this study would contribute to the evolution of digital makeup as both an artistic and commercial field within the beauty industry.
