申綽 『詩次故』 속 ‘-按’注 에 대한 小考 - 『國風』 160수를 중심으로

A Study on the “An” (按) Annotations in Shin Jak’s Si Chago : Focusing on the 160 Poems of the Guofeng Section

본고는 조선 후기 학자 申綽(申綽, 1760-1828)의『詩次故』에 나타난 ‘-按’注 형식과 해석적의미를 분석한 것이다. 『詩次故』는 『詩經』 전편을 주석한 저술로, 주자학 중심의 해석을 따르지 않고, 周·秦·漢·唐의 문헌 약 300종을 인용하여 실증적 해석을 시도하였다. 본 연구는 『詩次故』 중 ｢國風｣ 160수에 수록된 188건의 ‘按’ 표현을 전수 조사한 뒤, 다섯 가지 표현 형식 (綽按, 又按, 綽謂, 謹按, 按)과 여섯 가지 해석 기능 유형(주장, 중립적 서술, 부연 설명, 비교·대조, 비판, 유보)으로 분류하였다. 특히 ‘작안’은 188이건 중 156건(83%)의 압도적인 빈도로 등장하며, 이 가운데 ‘주장’ 유형이 61건으로 가장 많고, 이어서 ‘중립적 서술’과 ‘부연 설명’이 각각 56건, 24건이 뒤를 이었다. 이러한 결과, 申綽이 기존 해석을 맹목적으로 따르지 않고, 다수의 인용 문헌을 바탕으로 자신만의 해석을 조심스럽고 체계적으로 펼쳐 나갔다는 점을 볼 수 있었다. 나아가 이는 주자학 중심의 해석에서 벗어나 다양한 관점과 판단의 가능성을 열어두려는 태도이며, 당시 조선 후기 학문이 점차 더 자유롭고 실증적인 방향으로 나아가고 있음을 보여주는 예시라 할 수 있다.

This study examines the annotation style and interpretive function of the “-An (按)” expressions found in Si Chago (詩次故), authored by Shin Jak (申綽, 1760-1828), a prominent Confucian scholar of late Joseon Korea. Si Chago is a comprehensive comment ary on the Book of Songs (Shijing, 詩經) that deliberately distances itself from the NeoConfucian orthodoxy of Zhu Xi, instead referencing over 300 sources from the Zhou, Qin, Han, and Tang dynasties to develop a philologically grounded interpretation. Focusing on 188 instances of “-An” expressions in the 160 poems of the Guofeng (國風) section, this study categorizes them into five stylistic forms—Jak-An (綽按), You-An (又按), Jak-Wei (綽謂), Jin-An (謹按), and An (按)—and further classifies their interpretive functions into six types: assertion, neutral explanation, elaboration, comparison/contrast, critique, and res ervation. Among these, Jak-An appears in 156 cases (83%), with “assertion” (61 cases), “neutral explanation” (56), and “elaboration” (24) as the most frequent functions. These fi ndings demonstrate Shin Jak’s critical and independent interpretive stance, as he carefully engaged with inherited commentaries while offering his own systematic insights. His ann otation strategy reflects a scholarly posture that moves beyond the authoritative boundarie s of Neo-Confucian hermeneutics, opening space for diverse perspectives and evidence-ba sed interpretation—hallmarks of the intellectual transformation in late Joseon Confucianis m.
