Undergraduate Students’ Perceptions of Using ChatGPT in Korean-Arabic Post-Editing of Non-Literary Texts

This study aims to provide a general understanding of how undergraduate students perceive various aspects of ChatGPT and its use as a translation tool in the era of machine and AI translation. For this purpose, 16 third-year and fourth-year university students majoring in Arabic-Korean translation and interpretation were asked to complete a questionnaire regarding their perceptions and user experiences with ChatGPT. As part of the study, the students were first instructed to translate a short non-literary Arabic text into Korean independently. They were then asked to conduct post-editing of the same text using ChatGPT during class. Following this task, the students completed a questionnaire and wrote reflective commentaries on the post-editing process. The findings reveal a range of insights: from the perspective of learners, post-editing with ChatGPT elicited both positive and negative perceptions regarding its effectiveness as a translation tool.
