유튜브 동화 채널의 영어-한국어, 영어-아랍어 제목 번역 전략 비교

Comparison of English–Korean and English–Arabic Title Translation Strategies in YouTube Fairy Tale Channel

This study compares translation strategies for fairy-tale titles in video content by analyzing 206 English titles from YouTube channels and examining factors shaped by linguistic and cultural specificities. Strategies were coded into six types—literal translation, omission, addition, transliteration, equivalence, and text production—and Korean and Arabic renditions were analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively. Literal translation predominates in both corpora (Korean 65.0%; Arabic 85.0%). Korean titles show more specification and explication through addition and text production, whereas Arabic translators favor source-preserving choices, reflecting standard-language norms and more conservative borrowing. These contrasts indicate that linguistic features, cultural expectations, and child-audience considerations jointly shape title translation, offering practical guidance for translators working as intercultural mediators
