이 논문은 네덜란드 개혁주의 철학자 에그버트 스휴르만(Egbert Schuurman)의 기독교 기술철학을 체계적으로 고찰한다. 스휴르만은 기술을 단순한 도구적 수단이 아니라 종교적·문화적 기본 동인에 의해 형성되는 실재적이고 세계관적인 현상으로 본다. 그는 헤르만 도여베르트(Herman Dooyeweerd)의 선험 철학을 계승하여 현대 기술 문명을 “기술주의(technicism)”로 규정하고, 그 안에 내재한 세속적 유토피아주의와 인간 중심적 허무주의를 비판한다. 또한, 그는 기술이 하나님의 창조 질서와 청지기적 소명을 실현하는 규범적 수단이 될 수 있다고 주장하며, 성경적 세계관에 기초한 기술 문화의 개혁 가능성을 제시한다. 본 논문은 스휴르만의 철학적 배경, 종교적 기본 동인 이론, 기술주의에 대한 비판, 그리고 기술의 규범적 재구성을 분석함으로써, 그의 사상이 오늘날 기술 시대에 주는 기독교 철학적 함의를 조명한다.

This study systematically examines the Christian philosophy of technology developed by Dutch reformational philosopher Egbert Schuurman. Schuurman does not view technology as a neutral tool but as a real and worldview-driven phenomenon shaped by religious ground motive. Building on the transcendental philosophy of Herman Dooyeweerd, Schuurman identifies modern technological civilization as “technicism” and critically analyzes its embedded secular utopianism and human-centered nihilism. He argues that technology can become a normative means of developing God’s creation with human responsible stewardship, provided it is guided by a biblical worldview. This paper explores his philosophical background, theory of religious ground motives, critique of technicism, and proposal for a normative reformation of technology. Through this analysis, the study highlights the Christian philosophical implications of Schuurman’s thought for today’s technological era.
