이웃 사랑의 실천으로서 교회의 사회복지사업에 관한 연구

A Study on the Church's Social Welfare Activities as an Exercise of Neighborly Love

본 연구는 이웃 사랑의 실천으로서 교회와 성도들이 사회복지사업에 적극적으로 참여해야 할 필요성과 그 방향을 제시하고자 하였다. 교회의 사회복지사업에 대한 참여를 통하여 교회와 크리스천의 신뢰도를 회복해야 한다는 당위성을 가지고 신·구약성경과 해외선교사들의 한국교회 선교활동에서 그 실마리를 찾고자 하였다. 이 같은 연구 문제에 따른 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 신·구약성경에서는 안식년 제도에 의한 종의 자유와 해방, 빚의 탕감, 추수할 때, 땅에 떨어진 이삭, 고아와 과부 등, 돌봄이 필요한 이들을 돕는 데서 한국교회의 사회복지사업에 대한 참여의 필요성을 찾을 수 있다. 또한, 해외선교사들에 의한 선교활동에서 광혜원의 설립과 함께 시행된 의료 활동, 성경구락부를 통한 교육사업, 복지재단을 통한 고아와 장애인의 돌봄 등에서 한국교회의 사회복지사업에 대한 방향성을 찾을 수 있었다. 교회의 사회복지사업을 성공적으로 수행하기 위해서는 교회 안에도 사회복지사의 활동을 도입하여 사회복지에 대한 전문적 지식과 기술, 그 가치를 공유하고, 사회복지사업에 참여하는 것이 교회의 사명임을 인식하게 함으로써 교회와 성도가 사회복지사업에 적극적인 참여함으로써 예배와 성찬은 물론, 교회의 사명으로서 이웃 사랑을 실천해야만 한다.

This study aimed to present the necessity and direction for churches and congregants to actively participate in social welfare activities as a practice of loving one's neighbor. It sought to find justification for restoring the trust of the church and Christians through participation in social welfare activities, looking for clues in the Old and New Testaments and the missionary activities of foreign missionaries in the Korean church. The results of the research according to these questions are as follows: From the Old and New Testaments, one can find the necessity of the Korean church's participation in social welfare activities through the concepts of freedom and liberation of slaves from the year of Jubilee, debt forgiveness, and providing assistance to those in need such as the poor, the orphans, and the widows. Furthermore, in the missionary activities conducted by foreign missionaries, the establishment of hospitals alongside educational programs through Bible study clubs and caring for orphans and the disabled through welfare foundations revealed a direction for the Korean church's social welfare activities. To successfully carry out social welfare activities, it is essential to introduce the activities of social workers within the church to share professional knowledge and skills regarding social welfare, and to make the church and its congregants aware that participation in social welfare activities is part of the church's mission, thereby actively practicing the love for neighbors as an aspect of worship and communion, fulfilling the church's mission.
