Interpreting the Film The Breaking Ice through the Lens of Affect Theory

<The Breaking Ice>라는 영화는 세 사람 사이에서 일어나는 감정 이야기를 들려주었다. 본고는 정동(情動)이론을 주 방법으로 삼아 세 인물 간의 감정적인 측면에서 접근하고자 하였다. 먼저 사랑이라는 것의 내면을 살펴보았으며 다음으로 사랑의 발생 메커니즘을 검토해 보았다. 사랑은 개체가 고독을 해소하려고 흔히 사용하는 방법론이다. 개체는 자신 외의 세계와 연결함으로써 정동을 촉발시키며 이 과정에서 감정이 흐르게 되는 것이다. 나아가 정동적인 사랑으로부터 생성되는 주체성에 대하여 검토해 보았다. 주체성은 규정된 본질적 존재가 아니라 정동에 의하여 촉발되는 지속적으로 생성되는 것이다. 이리하여 생성적 주체성을 갖는 개체는 유동적이고 자유로운 특징을 지니고 있다. 마지막으로 로드무비라는 영화의 서사 형식 측면에서 생성적 주체성에 대한 보충 설명을 덧붙이었다.

The Breaking Ice constructs an emotional narrative among three individuals. This paper employs affect theory as its primary methodological framework to examine their interpersonal dynamics through an affective lens. Firstly, it deconstructs the ontological essence of love, positing it as a methodology individuals employ to dissolve existential solitude. Subsequently, the investigation probes love's generative mechanisms, revealing how subjects activate affective circuits through extra-personal connections, thereby catalyzing emotional flux. The study further interrogates the subjectivity emerging from affective love, conceptualizing it not as predetermined essence but as a dynamic becoming perpetually reconstituted through affective processes. Consequently, individuals embodying generative subjectivity manifest fluid and emancipatory characteristics. Finally, through formal analysis of road movie conventions, supplementary elucidation is provided regarding this generative subjectivity.
