Journal of Education and Teaching Vol.3 No.8.png

Drawing upon multidimensional data, this study analyzes the evolution of Chinese language education in South Korean universities from 2020 to 2023. By examining key indicators, such as the number of universities offering Chinese language programs, the actual number of enrolled students, and the numbers of graduates, the study identifies an overall unfavorable trend in recent years. Furthermore, the study identifies underlying causes of this trend from various perspectives, including the IT revolution, the dynamics of China-South Korea relations, the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, and interdisciplinary integration. Despite the multiple challenges currently facing Chinese language education in South Korean universities, the study suggests that Chinese language education in South Korean universities is poised for new development opportunities. These opportunities can be realized through innovative teaching models, policy support, and the collaborative efforts of international Chinese language educators, particularly in the context of global economic recovery.
