Exploring Key Issues in Sustainable Carbon Neutrality Using Topic Modeling and Text Network Analysis

Amid the global risks driven by the climate crisis, achieving sustainable carbon neutrality has emerged as an urgent priority for the international community. In response, this study conducts a multifaceted analysis using topic modeling, text network analysis, and clustering techniques on existing academic literature to comprehensively identify key issues related to sustainable carbon neutrality. The findings reveal that energy efficiency and innovative technologies are among the key elements of sustainable carbon neutrality. Notable topics include technologies for improving energy efficiency and reducing costs in the building and industrial sectors. From an environmental perspective, green fuels, carbon reduction technologies, relevant policy frameworks, and hydrogen technologies are identified as core elements. These results underscore the need for not only technological approaches but also policy-level strategies such as corporate ESG management and the establishment of emission reduction targets. Furthermore, this study shows that, after 2020, substantive discussions on policies, industrial and technological innovations, and carbon reduction targets have significantly intensified. This finding is noteworthy in that it captures a transitional phase toward an era of sustainable carbon neutrality through temporal comparison using text network analysis. Finally, this study highlights the importance of a multi-dimensional approach that encompasses technological, environmental, and policy perspectives for achieving sustainable carbon neutrality. It offers comprehensive insights to diverse stakeholders, including industry, government, academia, and civil society, for developing effective carbon reduction strategies and fostering innovation in sustainable technologies.
