This study explores the extent to which the language development process of L1 children can be simulated for L2 adult learners. Five upper-intermediate English-major university students participated in a case study designed to mirror the early language experiences of children. Using the film The Irishman, the learners were guided through a three-phase world structure: initial world introduction, everyday routine observation, and emotional engagement. To simulate the role of caregivers in L1 development, AI tools were provided to supply incidental language input. After the simulation, participants completed three tests and submitted two reflective statements. Test results showed strong performance in the first and third phases, but weak performance in the second phase, likely due to the nonverbal nature of routine behaviors. In reflective writing, three students expressed interest in the film-based immersive experience with incidental AI input over traditional language learning approaches. Four emphasized the need for caution with AI-generated language input, while one likened AI to an L1 caregiver. Overall, the findings suggest that aspects of L1 developmental processes can be effectively modeled for L2 learners. The study concludes that further research is needed to examine how unconscious, experience-based language development can inform more structured approaches to adult L2 learning.
