Development of Digital Dentistry: 2. Intra Oral Scanner

Objectives: Intra oral scanners are a major process of digital dentistry and are used in various fields such as dental prosthesis, orthodontics, and implants. Methods: Data were collected using electronic journals and books. Results: The primary function of intra oral scanners is to capture three-dimensional images of the oral cavity using optical technologies. The fundamental scanning principles are typically categorized into triangulation, confocal laser scanning microscopy, and active wavefront sampling. Conclusions: There is an increasing demand for a dental hygiene curriculum that facilitates a clearer understanding of digital workflows.
