Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the effects of learning engagement and self-control on the self-regulated learning ability of dental hygiene students and to provide foundational data for developing practical educational programs to enhance learning outcomes. Methods: Data were collected from April 1 to June 30, 2024, from dental hygiene students in the Daejeon and Chungcheong regions using a self-administered questionnaire with voluntary participation. The sample size was calculated using G*Power 3.1.9.4 with a power of 0.95, a significance level of 0.05, an effect size of 0.15, and 10 predictors. A minimum of 172 participants was required, and 178 students were included in the final analysis. The questionnaire comprised seven items on general characteristics, eight items on self-regulated learning ability, 29 items on learning engagement, and 24 items on self-control, all rated on a 5-point Likert scale. Results: Learning engagement was identified as a significant factor influencing self-regulated learning ability, explaining 35.1% of the variance. Conclusions: To enhance self-regulated learning ability among dental hygiene students, it is essential to implement strategies that strengthen students’ active control over their learning process and develop management programs that promote learning engagement.
