The Effect of Dental Hygiene Students' Self-Esteem, Social Support, and Self-Concept Clarity on Career Barriers

Objectives: This study aims to understand the relations between self-esteem, social support, self-concept clarity, and career barriers of dental hygiene students. Methods: This paper is based on the support of academic research at Gimcheon University in 2025. A self-administered survey was conducted from April 3 to 7, 2024, targeting dental hygiene students enrolled in District D. The research instruments included general characteristics(5), self-esteem(10), social support(12), self-concept clarity(12), and career barriers(24). To identify factors influencing career barriers for dental hygiene students, multiple regression analysis was conducted. Results: The factors influencing that had a significant relation with career barriers were year (2nd year), major satisfaction (normal) and self-concept clarity, with an explanatory power of 50%. Conclusions: This study concludes that students will gain self-confidence and explore various job openings? suitable for their preferences and aptitudes, Thus, they will pursue a career path to success, with a proper perspective of their profession.
