Objectives: On the basis of gender, we compared and analyzed the risk factors that influence the experience of oral symptoms among Korean adolescents. Methods: A total of 54,648 individuals who participated in the 20th Korea Youth Risk Behavior Survey were included in the analysis. The survey items covered mental health domains, health-related behaviors, and experience with oral symptoms. Results: Compared with boys, girls experienced higher levels of anxiety and stress, as well as a greater prevalence of tooth pain and gingival bleeding. Severe anxiety, considerable stress, fatigue from insufficient sleep, drinking alcohol, smoking, and consuming elevated amounts of caffeine three or more times per week were all associated with oral symptoms. Conclusions: The development of gender-specific programs that take into account anxiety disorders and health-related behaviors is expected to contribute to improvements in oral health among adolescents.
