국제교육과정 인증시험으로서 ‘IGCSE 한국어(International GCSE)’ 시험문제 유형 탐색을 통한 국제 한국어 평가 방향 제시 연구 - ‘읽기’와 ‘쓰기’를 대상으로

A Study on Directions for International Korean Language Assessment through Analysis of Question Types in the IGCSE Korean (International GCSE) Examination as an International Curriculum Certification Test: Focusing on Reading and Writing

본 연구는 국제공인 중등 교육과정 인증시험 중 IGCSE 한국어 시험의 ‘읽기’ 와 ‘쓰기’ 영역 문항을 분석하여, 국제교육과정에서의 한국어 평가의 특성과 교육적 시사점을 고찰하는 것을 목적으로 한다. IGCSE 시험은 캠브리지대학교 산하 CIE(Cambridge International Examination)에서 개발한 국제 공인 교육과정 인증시험이다. 본 연구는 CIE에서 개발한 IGCSE 한국어 시험의 읽기와 쓰기영역의 문항 유형, 평가 방식, 제시된 텍스트의 특성을 분석하여 시험의 정체성과 교육 방향성을 모색하였다. 분석 결과, IGCSE 한국어 시험은 TOPIK과 달리문학·비문학 텍스트를 활용하여 비판적 사고와 논리적 문제 해결 능력을 종합적으로 평가하는 학문 목적의 시험이라는 것을 확인하였고, 시험 중단의 원인으로이러한 교육을 뒷받침할 수 있는 전문 한국어 교수자 양성과 교재 개발의 부족이시험 지속 불가능의 주요 원인이라는 점을 지적하였다. 본 연구는 IGCSE 한국어시험의 성격에 맞는 교육 방향 설정과 전문 교원 양성 및 교재 개발 연구의 필요성을 제언하고, 향후 국제 교육과정 내 한국어 교육 활성화와 시험 재도입을 위한 기초 자료로 활용되기를 기대한다.

This study aims to examine the characteristics and educational implications of Korean language assessment within international curricula by analyzing the ‘Reading’ and ‘Writing’ sections of the internationally accredited IGCSE Korean examination. The IGCSE examination is an internationally accredited curriculum certification test developed by Cambridge International Examinations (CIE), a department of the University of Cambridge. This study analyzed the question types, assessment methods, and characteristics of the texts presented in the reading and writing sections of the IGCSE Korean exam developed by CIE, in order to explore the exam’s identity and educational direction. Analysis results showed that, unlike the TOPIK, the IGCSE Korean exam is an academic-oriented test that comprehensively evaluates critical thinking and logical problem-solving skills through the use of literary and non-literary texts. It also identified the lack of specialized Korean language teacher training and textbook development to support such education as a major reason for the discontinuation of the exam. This study suggests the need to establish educational directions aligned with the nature of the IGCSE Korean exam, as well as to conduct research on professional teacher training and textbook development. It is hoped that this research will serve as a foundational resource for revitalizing Korean language education and reintroducing the exam within international curricula in the future.
