학교는 죽음을 어떻게 다루어야 하는가

How should schools deal with death?

최근 우리나라 학교 안팎에서는 다양한 죽음이 발생하면서 위기상황이 증가하고있고 이것은 학교가 학생들의 학업적 성취를 도모하는데 어려움을 초래한다. 이에 본 연구는 학교가 죽음을 바르게 다룰 수 있는 체계를 구축하기 위해 죽음 발생 이전과 이후에어떤 역할을 해야하는지 논의하는 것에 목적을 두었다. 학교는 죽음이 발생하기 전에는학생 및 교직원을 대상으로 죽음교육을 실시해야하고, 죽음이 발생하면 위기대응팀의 즉각적인 활동, 학교 구성원들이 필요한 지원을 받을 수 있는 공간 운영, 지지집단 운영, 학생 발달단계 및 개인적 특성을 고려한 개입 등을 실시해야 한다. 이를 위해 학교가 애도과정에서 긍정적인 역할을 할 수 있는 중요한 환경이라는 인식의 변화, 담당 인력에 대한교육과 훈련, 교직원 대상 자기돌봄을 위한 지원의 필요성, 지역사회 유관기관과의 유기적 협력관계 형성, 위기상황 대응에 대한 정기 점검 및 평가 실시가 필요하다는 점을 제언하였다.

Recently, various deaths have occurred both inside and outside of Koreanschools, increasing the risk of crisis situations. This has made it difficult forschools to promote students' academic achievement. Therefore, this study aimed todiscuss the roles schools should play before and after death to establish a systemthat properly handles death. Before a death occurs, schools should provide deatheducation to students and faculty. After death, schools should implement immediatecrisis response team activities, operate spaces where school members can receivenecessary support, operate support groups, and implement interventions tailored to students' developmental stages and individual characteristics. To achieve this, thisstudy suggested a shift in the perception that schools are crucial environments thatcan play a positive role in the grieving process, provide education and training forstaff, foster cooperative partnerships with relevant community organizations, andimplement regular monitoring and evaluations of crisis response.
