마이크 코르닉의 《라틴 피아노 듀엣 1권》에 나타난중급 피아노 교수방안 연구

A Study on Intermediate Piano Pedagogy Reflected in Mike Cornick's Latin Piano Duets, Book 1

본 연구는 마이크 코르닉(Mike Cornick)의 《라틴 피아노 듀엣 1권》(Latin PianoDuets 1)에 수록된 세 작품, 〈Beguine〉, 〈Slow Tango〉, 〈Conga〉을 중심으로 음악적특징을 분석하고, 이를 바탕으로 중급 피아노 학습자를 위한 효과적인 교수방안을 제시하였다. 분석 결과, 해당 곡들은 싱코페이션과 트레실로 등 라틴 음악의 핵심 리듬 어법을 포함하고있으며, 파트 간의 역할 전환을 통해 앙상블의 상호작용을 강조한다. 이러한 특징은 피아노 듀오 연주를 통해 학습자의 리듬 감각, 청음 능력, 음악적 표현력을 향상시키는 긍정적인 교육효과를 기대하게 한다. 나아가 라틴 음악의 특성을 반영한 신체 리듬 활동과 파트 간 상호작용은 전통적인 악보 중심 수업에서 벗어나 창의적 교수·학습 방법을 가능하게 하며, 교육용 레퍼토리로서의 가치를 극대화할 수 있다. 이에 본 연구는 국내 피아노 교육의 레퍼토리를 확장하고, 학습자 중심의 효과적인 교수·학습 설계를 위한 기초 자료로서 실천적 의의를 지닌다.

This study analyzes three works-<Beguine>, <Slow Tango>, and<Conga>-from Mike Cornick’s Latin Piano Duets Book 1, and proposes effectiveteaching strategies for intermediate piano learners based on their musical characteristics. The analysis reveals that these pieces incorporate core rhythmic idioms of Latin music, such as syncopation and tresillo, and highlight ensemble interaction through roleexchanges between parts. These features are expected to yield positive educationaleffects by enhancing learners’ rhythmic sense, aural skills, and musical expressivenessthrough piano duo performance. Furthermore, body rhythm activities and inter-partinteractions that reflect the characteristics of Latin music provide creative teaching andlearning methods beyond traditional score-centered instruction, thereby maximizing thevalue of these works as educational repertoire. Accordingly, this study carries practicalsignificance as a foundation for expanding the repertoire of piano education in Koreaand for designing learner-centered, effective teaching and learning approaches.
