금속 기물 표면 장식을 위한 덧붙이기 기법 활용 연구

A Study on the Application of the Lamination Inlay Technique for Surface Decoration of Metal Vessels

본 연구는 금속 기물의 표면에 무늬와 같은 장식 요소를 보다 효율적으로 표현할 수 있는 방법을 모색하는 데서 출발하였다. 이를 위해 ‘덧붙이기’ 기법을 연구 주제로 선정하고 실험 및 응용 제작을 통해 그 활용 가능성을 검토하였다. 본 연구의 목적은 덧붙이기 기법을 활용하여 세밀하고 회화적인 이미지를 효과적으로 표현할 수 있는지를 확인하고 나아가 다양한 조형 조건에서의 기술적 적용 가능성과 실용적 가치를 실증적으로 제시하는 데 있다. 이를 위해 덧붙이기 기법의 정의와 특징을 고찰하고 관련 선행 작품 사례를 분석하여 이론적 기반을 마련하였다. 이후 평면형 및 입체형 바탕금속을 대상으로 실험을 수행하여 기법의 조형적 특성과 기술적 적용 가능성을 검토하였다. 평면형 바탕금속 실험에서는 ‘밀집 패턴 표현’, ‘중첩 이미지 표현’, ‘미세 조형 요소 표현’의 세 가지 범위를 설정하여 조형적 표현력을 확인하였고 입체형 바탕금속 실험에서는 곡면 적용 시 요구되는 추가 공정과 기술적 변수를 중점적으로 다루었다. 마지막으로 평면형 바탕금속 실험에서 다룬 표현을 바탕으로 두 점의 기물을 제작하여 실제 제작 환경에서의 응용 가능성을 검증하였다. 그 결과 덧붙이기 기법이 회화적 이미지를 포함한 다양한 문양 표현에 효과적으로 활용될 수 있음을 확인하였다. 종합적으로 본 연구는 덧붙이기 기법이 교육 환경에서 뿐만 아니라 창작 활동에서도 높은 잠재력을 지니고 있음을 제시하며 이를 통해 조형적 및 실용적 가치를 재조명함으로써 향후 다양한 창작 및 학술 연구의 확산에 기여하고자 한다.

This study originated from the aim of exploring more efficient methods for expressing decorative elements, such as patterns, on the surfaces of metal objects. For this purpose, the Lamination Inlay was selected as the research subject, and its applicability was examined through experiments and applied production. The objective of this study is to determine whether the lamination inlay technique can effectively render intricate and pictorial images, and futhermore, to empirically present its technical applicability and practical value under various formative conditions. To this end, the definition and characteristics of the lamination inlay technique were investigated and relevant prior works were analyzed to establish a theoretical foundation. Subsequently, experiments were conducted applicability of the method. In the flat-type experiments, three categories-“dense pattern expression”, “overlapping image expression”, and “fine formative element expression”-were set to evaluate the technique’s expressive potential. In the three-dimensional experiments, emphasis was placed on additional processes and type experiments, two metal objects were produced to verify the applicability of the technique in an actual production environment. The results confirmed that the lamination inlay technique can be effectively utilized for various pattern expressions, including pictorial imagery. Overall, this study suggests that the lamination inlay technique holds significant potential not only in educational contexts but also in creative practice, thereby re-highlighting its formative and practical values and contributing to the future expansion of diverse creative and academic research.
