This study presents the design and implementation of a character makeup design curriculum based on the scenario and character analysis of the film ‘The Greatest Showman’. The course integrates traditional hand drawing, digital illustration, and generative AI techniques to examine the educational impact and potential of this hybrid instructional approach. Students engaged with three distinct modes of visual expression, enhancing both their creative abilities and practical competencies. Notably, the rapid image generation and stylistic variability enabled by generative AI significantly boosted learning motivation and workflow efficiency. However, the findings also revealed technical barriers and expressive limitations associated with AI tools, emphasizing the importance of blending traditional and digital methods. This instructional model offers a personalized learning environment by integrating the emotional depth of analog techniques, the flexibility of digital platforms, and the innovative visualization capabilities of AI. It points toward a future-oriented direction for beauty education in the era of edtech. Further advancements such as developing user-friendly interfaces, conducting long-term outcome assessments, and deepening emotional expressiveness are expected to strengthen the model’s educational effectiveness and practical relevance. Ultimately, this study lays a meaningful foundation for convergent education that balances tradition and innovation in training the next generation of beauty professionals.
