Statistical Analysis of Fire Probability on Japanese Housing with Socio-Technical Observation

International Journal of Fire Science and Engineering (IJFSE) Vol. 39, No. 3.png

The balance between the sustainable use of wood and fire safety has become a global issue. This paper deals with the statistical analysis of fire in Japanese housing. According to the census survey of Japanese fires (Kasai Houkoku) for 25 years, the reduction of consequences of fires mainly correlates with the fire occurrence rate. The inhabitants' age and the housing construction year influence the fire occurrence rate. Appropriate renovation of equipment in old housing will be essential to reduce fire risk rather than strain the fire-resistant performance of wood structures. The author intends to combine this analysis with a design theory, “Open Building System,” for appropriate renovation for further fire safety.
