Following the Industrial Revolution, rapid urbanization and mechanization have led to an environment in which humans have become increasingly disconnected from nature. As modern individuals spend the majority of their time indoors, they face various issues such as psychological fatigue, depression, and the rise of infectious diseases. In response, there has been growing interest in restoring emotional connections with nature. Within this context, biophilic design has emerged as a design strategy grounded in the innate human tendency to seek affinity with natural elements. By integrating nature into interior environments, biophilic design has been recognized for its potential to enhance emotional well-being and spatial satisfaction. This study proposes an object-type furniture design that combines a terrarium with a table, as a means of applying biophilic philosophy to furniture design. The table’s form is inspired by the organic shapes found in nature, resulting in the development of a new type of terrarium table that satisfies both functional and aesthetic needs. A real terrarium was constructed within the interior of the table to verify the design’s feasibility and practical value. This work offers a design solution that enables users to experience nature up close within indoor environments, promoting psychological comfort and a healing effect. Ultimately, this study serves as a practical implementation of biophilic design philosophy and holds both academic and practical significance. It also presents a new direction in design that facilitates emotional interaction with nature in interior spaces, distinguishing it from existing studies. It is expected that the findings of this research will serve as a foundational reference for future explorations in sustainable and nature-friendly design.
