This study aimed to develop character figure utilizing traditional dancheong patterns, taking into account the global interest in content based on Korean culture and the expanding character business market. Dancheong is a precious cultural heritage that preserves the Korean aesthetic, and is characterized by color arrangement through light and shade and unique patterns. To characterize this dancheong, the researcher investigated various patterns, and among them, the flat lotus flower pattern was used as a motif for the character design. Additionally, the design was carried out by taking into consideration the main visual elements of figure design: body proportions, facial shape, color, and movement. In particular, super deformation refers to the process of changing a character into a two-headed or three-headed figure with a large head and a short body during the process of making a figure. As a result of reflecting the above elements in the design, the researcher produced a Korean character figure that stands out for its originality rather than its flashiness. This study is significant in establishing a direction for creative character and cultural products design based on traditional Korean culture.
