This study analyzes the elementary-level basic English vocabulary in the 2022 revised national curriculum based on CEFR-aligned lexical proficiency levels, as provided by the English Vocabulary Profile. The 800 elementary-level words in the curriculum were compared to CEFR A-level lexical items to evaluate their alignment and identify potential improvements. Results show that 88% of the elementary-level basic words align with CEFR A-level words, suggesting overall appropriateness in difficulty. However, it was found that 96 elementary-level basic words exceed the CEFR A level, and that the national curriculum classifies 572 CEFR A-level words beyond the elementary level. Three experts further evaluated these words, revealing that 27 elementary-level words had low suitability for elementary English. Additionally, 61 A-level words were deemed highly appropriate for elementary English. These findings suggest pedagogical implications for future curriculum revisions, highlighting the importance of data-driven, level-appropriate vocabulary selection for young learners.
