목적: 본 연구는 한국어 학습자가 공적 담화 맥락에서 겪는 호칭어 사용의 어려움에 주목하여 교재에 나타난 사회적 호칭어의 사용 양상과 호칭어가 생략된 담화의 유형을 분석하고 그 교육적 시사점을 도출하고자 하였다. 방법: 한국어 교사와 중급 이상 학습자를 대상으로 사전 설문을 실시하고 『경희 한국어』와 『서울대 한국어+』의 듣기·말하기 지문을 분석하였다. 결과: 분석 결과 ‘호칭어가 생략된 담화’가 66.74%로 가장 높은 비율을 보였으며 특히 고급 단계와 매체 담화에서 집중적으로 나타났다. 본 연구는 이러한 호칭어의 생략을 세 가지 유형으로 나누어 분석하였는데 생략형 호칭어가 사용되어 명시적 호칭어가 필요하지 않은 ‘불필요’ 유형이 가장 많았고, 그다음으로 명시적 호칭어의 제시가 요구되는 ‘누락’ 유형, 생략형 호칭어의 선택 전략과 판단 기준 제시가 필요한 ‘적절한 호칭어의 부재’ 유형 순으로 나타났다. 결론: 향후 교재에는 사회적 호칭어를 제시할 수 있는 다양한 공적 담화 맥락을 반영하고 생략형 호칭어의 사용과 그 한계를 함께 교육할 필요가 있다.
Purpose: This study examines the difficulties Korean language learners encounter when using address terms in public discourse contexts, analyzing the patterns of social address terms and the types of utterances without explicit address terms presented in textbooks, and deriving pedagogical implications. Method: A preliminary survey was conducted with Korean language teachers and intermediate and higher-level learners, followed by an analysis of listening and speaking texts from Kyunghee Korean and Seoul National University Korean+. Results: Among all address term instances, utterances without explicit address terms accounted for 66.74%, with the highest concentration found in advanced-level textbooks and media discourse. The study categorized the omission of these terms into three distinct types. The most frequent category was “Unnecessary,” in which omitted address terms were functionally replaced by alternative expressions, followed by “Oversight,” where explicit address terms were required, and “Lack of Appropriate Address Term,” which called for strategic choice and decision- making criteria. Conclusion: Korean language textbooks should incorporate a wider range of public discourse contexts where social address terms can be naturally introduced, and provide instruction that covers both the strategic use and limitations of omitted address terms.
