신문 제목과 키워드를 활용한 고급 한국어 학습자 수업 사례 연구 - 어휘 확장 및 읽기 동기 향상의 가능성 탐색

A Case Study on Instruction for Advanced Korean Learners Using Newspaper Headlines and Keywords : Exploring the Potential for Vocabulary Expansion and Reading Motivation Enhancement

목적: 본 연구는 신문 기사 제목과 키워드를 중심으로 한 수업 사례를 제시하고, 이를 통해 고급 한국어 학습자의 어휘 학습과 읽기 활동에서 어떠한 변화 가능성이 나타나는지를 탐색하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 방법: TOPIK Ⅱ 읽기 영역(25~27번 문항)의 기사 제목을 분석한 결과를 토대로 실제 신문 자료를 선정하여, 10주간 고급 학습자 9명을 대상으로 수업을 운영하였다. 수업은 ‘읽기 전–읽기 중–읽기 후’ 단계별 활동으로 설계되었다. 결과: 학습자들은 신문 읽기에 대한 부담이 완화되고, 제목과 핵심어를 통한 내용 예측이 가능해져 읽기에 대한 자신감과 흥미가 향상되었으며, 어휘의 의미·용법·맥락 이해가 심화되는 경험을 보고하였다. 결론: 본 연구는 신문 제목·핵심어 기반 수업이 고급 학습자에게 실제성 있는 언어 입력을 제공하고 어휘 학습과 읽기 동기 향상을 지원할 수 있는 교육적 가능성을 보여주었다. 이는 수업 모형의 활용 가능성을 제시한 사례적 의의로 이해할 수 있으며, 향후 더 다양한 학습자 집단과 기사 장르를 대상으로 한 후속 연구가 필요하다.

Purpose: This study aims to present an instructional case using newspaper headlines and keywords, and to explore the potential for changes in vocabulary learning and reading activities among advanced Korean language learners. Methods: Based on an analysis of article headlines from the TOPIK II reading section (questions 25-27), authentic newspaper materials were selected and utilized in a 10-week course involving nine advanced learners. The instruction was designed following a three-phase structure: pre-reading, while-reading, and post- reading. Results: Learners reported a reduced sense of burden when reading newspapers, improved ability to predict content through headlines and keywords, increased confidence and interest in reading, and a deeper under- standing of vocabulary meaning, usage, and context. Conclusion: The findings suggest that instruction centered on newspaper headlines and keywords can offer authentic language input for advanced learners, effectively supporting vocabulary acquisition and enhancing motivation for reading. This case study highlights the instructional potential of such a model and underscores the need for further research involving diverse learner groups and a wider range of newspaper genres.
