This study explores how food-related cultural content in the films Little F orest (South Korea) and The Scent of Green Papaya (Vietnam) conveys eac h culture’s values, identity, and worldview through cinematic representation. Drawing on the semiotic frameworks of Roland Barthes and Baek Seung-guk, the research analyzes the cultural meanings embedded in food scenes across three structural levels: deep, narrative, and surface. The findings sh ow that food in these films functions as a symbolic medium expressing the mes such as self-reliance, healing, tradition, and gendered experiences. By extracting micro-content from the films, the study demonstrates their poten tial for use in Korean culture education as a tool to foster intercultural co mmunicative competence, cultural comparison, and critical reflection amon g learners.
