본 논문은 현대 한국 사회에서 타투에 대한 사회적 인식의 급격한 변화가 교회공동체 내에 어떤 신학적, 윤리적, 목회적 과제를 고찰한다. 과거 타투는 범죄성, 일탈, 비윤리성의 상징으로 간주되었으나, 최근에는 자아 표현과 개성의 수단으로 문화적 재해석이 이루어지고 있으며, 특히 젊은 세대를 중심으로 대중화되고 있다. 이에 따라 교회는 타투 현상을 단순히 금지하거나 수용하는 이분법적 태도를 넘어서, 보다 복합적인 실천신학적 접근을 요구받고 있다. 논문은 먼저 타투의 역사적 기원과 한국 사회 내 인식의 전환 과정을 분석하고, 이 변화가 신학적으로 '하나님의 형상 훼손', '신체의 자기결정권', '우상적 상징성'등의 문제와 어떻게 연결되는지를 논의한다. 또한, 세대 간 인식 차이와 타투를 둘러싼 갈등이 목회 현장에서 어떻게 나타나는지를 살피며, 전도적 접근, 공동체 내 수용과 분별, 문화적 포용성의 긴장을 강조한다. 나아가 성경의 교훈과 기독교 윤리적 기준을 토대로, 교회가 타투에 대해 어떤 신학적 분별력을 지니고 대응해야 하는지를 실천신학의 틀 속에서 제안한다. 결론적으로 본 논문은 타투가 단지 외형적 장식이나 유행이 아닌, 문화적·영적상징성을 지닌 복합적 현상임을 인식하고, 교회가 타투를 둘러싼 복음적 분별, 공동체적 품위, 선교적 포용의 균형을 이룰 수 있도록 신학적 지침을 제공하는 데 목적이 있다.

This study explores the theological and pastoral implications of the shifting societal perception of tattoos in contemporary Korean society. Historically associated with criminality, deviance, and immorality, tattoos have increasingly been reinterpreted as expressions of individuality and aesthetic identity, particularly among younger generations. In light of these cultural changes, the Korean church faces the challenge of moving beyond a binary stance of blanket prohibition or uncritical acceptance, requiring a more nuanced and practical theological response. The paper begins by tracing the historical origins of tattooing and analyzing the transformation of its perception within Korean culture. It then examines the theological issues raised by this shift, including questions related to the imago Dei, bodily autonomy, and idolatrous symbolism. Pastoral challenges are addressed as well, focusing on generational conflicts within the church, evangelistic barriers, and the need for cultural sensitivity in ministry. Drawing from biblical teaching and early church ethical frameworks, the study proposes a balanced approach that encourages theological discernment and pastoral wisdom in responding to the tattoo phenomenon. Ultimately, this research underscores that tattoos are not merely superficial trends but complex cultural and spiritual symbols. The church is called to respond with theological clarity and pastoral sensitivity−preserving the gospel, upholding communal holiness, and engaging the culture with grace and truth.
