In this study, in order to systematically explain the characteristics of the meaning of a derived word, the linguistic characteristics of the meaning of the derived word were first examined, and this was analyzed in relation to the grammatical and lexical meanings. The derivational meaning is closely related to these two meanings and interacts, but it is possible to distinguish them to some extent. A derivational meaning is more specific than an abstract and compulsory grammatical meaning, whereas it is a group meaning commonly derived from a series of words with a less specific, i.e., more abstract, meaning than an extremely specific lexical meaning because it is individual to each vocabulary. Therefore, the derivational meaning occupies an intermediate position between the grammatical meaning and the lexical meaning in the degree of specificity. Derivational meaning is also divided into transpositional meaning, modified meaning, and mutative meaning according to the semantic characteristics of the derivational pair, that is, depending on whether or not there is a difference in the meaning between the motivating word and the motivated word. In this case, the derivational formant performs different functions and roles according to each derivational type. Therefore, by systematically analyzing and describing the functions and roles of morphemes that occur in the process of extracting derivational meaning, the essence and characteristics of the meaning of the derived word can be captured more in-depth.
