본 연구는 일본 영화 <행복 목욕탕(湯を沸かすほどの熱い愛, 2016>을 중심으로 현대 사회의 가족 구성 변화와 그 의미 재해석을 제시하는 데 목적이있다. 후타바와 가족 구성원들의 상호작용, 목욕탕 공간 등 상징 체계를 연구대상으로 삼았다. 연구 대상은 후타바와 가족 구성원들의 상호작용, 그리고목욕탕 공간을 포함한 상징 체계이다. 서사 분석, 상징 분석, 주제 분석을 병행하고, 주디 버틀러(J. Butler)의 수행성 개념을 적용하여 모성이 반복적 돌봄과 윤리적 실천을 통해 구성되는 관계적 실천임을 검토하였다. 분석 결과, 영화는 혈연과 제도 중심의 가족을 넘어 정서적 유대와 돌봄, 윤리적 책임을기반으로 한 재구성된 가족 서사를 보여주었다. 목욕탕 공간은 세대 간 단절을 치유하고 가족 회복과 관계 재형성을 상징하며, 수행적 모성은 새로운 가족 의미 형성을 드러낸다. 본 연구는 가족과 모성의 사회적 구성원을 이해하고, 현대 가족의 다양성과 회복력에 대한 학문적·사회적 함의를 제시한다.
This study aims to present a reinterpretation of changes in contemporary family structure and their significance, focusing on the Japanese film Her Love Boils Bathwater (湯を沸かすほどの熱い愛, 2016). The research focuses on the interactions between Futaba and her family members, as well as the symbolic system, including the public bathhouse space. Narrative, symbolic, and thematic analyses are conducted simultaneously, and Judith Butler's concept of performativity is applied to examine how maternity is a relational practice constructed through repetitive care and ethical action. The analysis reveals that the film presents a reconstructed family narrative that transcends kinship and institutional frameworks, grounded in emotional bonding, care, and ethical responsibility. The bathhouse space symbolizes the healing of intergenerational disconnection, family recovery, and relationship reformation, while performative maternity demonstrates the formation of a new meaning of family. This study contributes to understanding the social construct of family and maternity and suggests academic and social implications for the diversity and resilience of modern families.
