This paper rethinks the human condition in the Anthropocene by moving beyond the modern concept of the globe toward a planetary conditiongrounded in co-habitation between humans and nonhumans. Beginning with Hannah Arendt’s reflections on action and the polis, it proceeds from the limits of her accountto argue that political life emerges not from anthropocentrism but from shared conditions of dwelling as a commons, co-generated with nonhuman agents. To capture the entanglement of contemporary digital technologies and ecological environments, the paper introduces the notion of the digital polis, and further expands it into the concept of the sym-polis—a political space where humans, technologies, data, microbes, and ecosystems interact within overlapping infrastructures. These infrastructures are not reducible to human-centered technical systems but constitute multi-layered assemblagesthat traverse the divide between nature and culture, living and non-living. In addressing planetary challenges such as climate disaster, ecological crisis, and the environmental implications of generative AI, the sym-polis foregrounds the construction of nonhuman infrastructures and the practice of multispecies co-habitation. Ultimately, the paper calls for a departure from linear narratives of progress toward a renewed vision of the commons, grounded in ecological and ethical reconfigurations of infrastructure and shared survival.
