This study investigates the positive effects of leisure participation on depression and emotional regulation among elite athletes, a population frequently exposed to intense physical demands, psychological stress, and competitive pressure. While elite athletes often achieve peak physical performance, they are also vulnerable to mental health challenges, including depressive symptoms and emotional dysregulation. Drawing upon recent literature and empirical evidence, this research explores how engaging in structured leisure activities contributes to mental well-being beyond athletic performance. Leisure participation, including recreational sports and social interactions, provides athletes with opportunities for relaxation, self-expression, and emotional recovery. The findings highlight that active engagement in leisure not only reduces depressive tendencies but also enhances emotional regulation strategies, enabling athletes to better cope with stress and performance anxiety. Furthermore, the study emphasizes the importance of balancing rigorous training schedules with leisure activities to support holistic health. By demonstrating the therapeutic role of leisure, the research underscores the need for coaches, sports organizations, and policymakers to integrate leisure-based interventions into athlete welfare programs. Ultimately, leisure participation emerges as a critical component for sustaining psychological resilience and long-term success in elite athletic careers/ Thus, the evidence can be translated to health aspects, addressing existing gaps in the area.
