We surveyed the high frequency word Da(大) in Mandarin Chinese with a cognitive semantic view. Firstly, we discussed the meaning of Da(大) in Modern Chinese Dictionary , and then we also explored it s quantitive properties which are divided into two types e.g. fixed quantum & unfixed quantum, which make different syntactic distributions in using Da(大) . we also discussed the meta- linguistic function of Da(大) to other dimension adjectives. Finally we discussed semantic network of Da(大) made by metaphor and compared the syntactical function between Da(大) and Duo(多) . Through our research, we reached the conclusion that the more frequent use of Da than Duo(多) reflect s on Chinese people' s linguistic expressions of their spatial thinking method, which are different from Korean's.
