도시관광자원으로서의 종교관광지의 교육적 기능: 수도권 중소도시의 지역 공동체 기반 종교 구술사를 중심으로

The Educational Function of Religious Tourism Sites as Urban Tourism Resources: Community-Based Religious Oral Histories in Small and Medium Cities of the Seoul Metropolitan Area

목적 본 연구는 수도권 중소도시 내 종교 구술사 및 역사문화자원을 보유하고 도시관광지로서 기능하는 종교 관광지를 조사하고, 그 교육적 기능을 고찰하는 데 목적이 있다. 특히 지역 공동체 기반 종교 관광지를 연구대상으로 선정하여 종교 구술사를 중심으로 장소성이 부각되는 교육적 기능을 개관하고자 한다. 방법 연구는 문헌 조사와 현장 방문을 병행한 탐색적 접근을 통해 수행되었으며, 해당 지역 사례 분석을 통해 종교 관광지가 지역 공동체의 역사문화자원으로서 교육적 기능을 어떻게 수행하는지에 대한 구체적인 양상과 그 의미를 규명하였다. 분석 결과 구술사를 기반으로 한 종교 역사문화자원은 지역 주민의 역사적 기억을 재생산하고 주민의 일상과 어우러지는 장소성을 강화함으로써 관광객에게 교육적·사회적 가치를 제공한다. 또한 지역 공동체 기반 관광은 관광의 주요 목적 중 하나인 공공성을 추구하며, 교육적 기능을 수행함으로써 지속 가능한 관광 개발과 지역 역사문화 보존을 동시에 실현하는 융합적 기능을 수행하는 것으로 나타났다. 이는 궁극적으로 지역 사회와 관광객 간의 문화적 소통을 촉진하고 지역 정체성 강화 및 역사문화 교육에 실질적으로 기여하는 토대를 마련한다. 결론 본 연구에서 분석한 종교관광지는 지역 공동체의 역사와 신앙이 결합된 장소로서, 구술사를 통해 전승된 신앙 경험과 집단 기억을 바탕으로 교육적 실천 모델을 구축하는 데 핵심적인 역할을 한다. 이 탐색적 연구는 향후 구술사 기반 종교관광지의 교육적 가능성을 다각도로 분석하고, 지역 역사문화자원의 효율적 활용을 통한 교육적 실천 모델의 확장에 기여할 수 있을 것이다.

Purpose This study aims to examine the educational functions of religious tourism sites in small and medium cities within the Seoul metropolitan area, focusing on those that possess oral histories and historical cultural resources while serving as urban tourism destinations. The research specifically investigates community-based religious tourism sites to explore how place-based educational value is emphasized through religious oral histories. Methods Employing an exploratory research design, the study combines a literature review with field visits. Through case analyses, it identifies the specific patterns and meanings by which theses religious tourism sites perform educational roles as local historical cultural resources. Findings Oral history-based religious historical cultural resources reproduce collective memory and reinforce place identity by integrating with daily life, offering educational and social value to tourists. Community-Based Tourism performs a convergent function by pursuing public interest while fulfilling educational roles that supports sustainable tourism development and the preservation of local history and culture. Ultimately, this approach fosters cultural communication between communities and tourists, strengthens local identity, and contributes historical cultural education. Conclusion The analyzed sites, where history and faith converge, play a key role in shaping educational practice models based on faith experiences and collective memory transmitted through oral history. This study is expected to contribute to a multifaceted analysis of the educational potential of oral history-based religious tourism sites and to the expansion of educational practice models through the effective use of local historical cultural resources.
