Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine current problems of survival swimming curriculum and suggest insights and basic data for improving curriculum. Research design, data, and methodology: This study collected literature of survival swimming curriculum and related reports. Furthermore, in-depth interview with fifteen survival swimming instructors was conducted to induce insights regarding current status and improvement of curriculum. Results: First, poor institutions among the institutions currently registered in the national private qualification registration number appeared. Accordingly, when granting a private qualification registration number, it should be possible to grant a qualification registration number according to the exact name, education content, and whether or not to issue a qualification, and a close review of the private qualification registration number institution should be conducted. Second, it is necessary to provide education only to those who hold life-saving personnel qualifications based on basic literacy as an instructor (child abuse prevention education, etc.) within the curriculum. Third, securing a swimming pool is the most urgent, and it is necessary to expand the number of hours, secure diversity in life jacket sizes, and plan a walking swimming process within the curriculum to strengthen the ability to respond to the site. Conclusions: Given the findings, this study suggests that prerequisite conditions of certificates of saving a life should be established to apply survival swimming certificate. Plus, sound sport facilities including swimming pool are necessary for a quality of swimming education. Further implications were discussed.
