Confucianism and Taoism is an important work in Max Weber’s study of religious sociology. In the book, Weber provides a detailed analysis of Chinese religions represented by Confucianism and Taoism and their influence on Chinese society. He points out that there is an essential difference between Confucian and Taoist culture and the rationalism of Western Protestantism, which hindered the emergence of capitalist elements and the modern transformation in China. This article sorts out Weber’s analysis of Confucianism and Taoism, analyzes the role and historical impact of Confucianism and Taoism in the modern transformation process of Chinese civilization, and reflects on and discusses Weber's study of China, exploring its theoretical value and inherent flaws. Weber’s analytical framework of religious sociology and historical materialism have a certain isomorphism at the level of problem vision, which provides some enlightenment for the development of socialist modernization in China today. It is necessary to re-examine the progressive role of traditional culture, creatively transform its reasonable core into cultural confidence, and make it an internal driving force for promoting the modern transformation of the Chinese nation.
《儒教与道教》是马克斯·韦伯宗教社会学研究的重要著作,韦伯在书中对儒道文化及其影响下的中国社会进行详细分析,指出儒道文化与西方清教的理性主义有本质差异,这阻碍了中国资本主义因素的萌发和现代化转型。通过对韦伯关于儒教与道教的研究进行梳理,分析在中华文明现代化转型进程中儒道的角色定位与历史影响,并对韦伯的中国研究作反思与探讨,发掘其理论价值与内在缺陷。韦伯宗教社会学分析框架与历史唯物主义在问题视野层面具有某种同构性,这为今天中国的社会主义现代化发展提供了一定的启示,要重新审视传统文化的进步性作用,将其合理内核创造性转化为文化自信,成为推动中华民族现代化转型的内驱动力。
