본 연구에서는 중국어의 여러 방언에서 보이는 전치사 좌초 회피 전략에 대해 고찰하였다. 중국어 11종 방언에서의 주제문 내 전치사 좌초 회피 전략의 사용 양상은 아래의 특징을 보였다. 1. 조사된 모든 방언에서 전치사의 목적어가 주제화 될 경우, 전치사 좌초 (preposition-stranding)는 허용되지 않았다. 2. 조사된 모든 방언에서 주제문 내 전치사 좌초 회피 전략으로 전치사구 삭제 전략과 전치사구 보류 전략을 사용하고 있었다. 3. 조사된 모든 방언의 주제문 내에서 사용된 전치사 회피 전략으로 전치사구 삭제 전략만을 사용하거나 전치사구 보류 전략만을 사용한 방언은 존재하지 않았으며 두 가지 전략을 모두 사용하고 있었다. 4. 고찰된 방언에서 전치사에 따라 사용되는 전략은 일정한 규칙성을 갖고 있었다. 즉 중국 여러 방언에서의 주제문 내 전치사 좌초 회피 현상은 자의적이고 무질서한 언어 현상이 아니라 전치사의 어법의미와 밀접한 관련이 있는 규칙성이 비교적 뚜렷한 현상인 것이다.
This study examined the prepositional stranding avoidance strategies which were seen in various Chinese dialects. The usage of the prepositional stranding avoidance strategies in the topic sentence in 11 dialects of Chinese showed the following features. 1. Preposition-stranding was not allowed when the object of the preposition was topicalized in all of the surveyed dialects. 2. In all of the surveyed dialects a prepositional phrase deletion strategy and a prepositional phrase retention strategy was used as a strategy to avoid preposition-stranding in the topic sentence. 3. There was no dialect using only the prepositional phrase deletion strategy or only the prepositional phrase retention strategy as a preposition-stranding avoidance strategies in the topic sentences of all the surveyed dialects and both strategies were used to avoid prepositional stranding in topic clauses. 4. In the investigated dialects the strategy showed a certain regularity according to grammatical meaning of the prepositions. Ultimately it was confirmed that features of the strategies for avoiding prepositional stranding in topic clauses in various Chinese dialects were not arbitrary and disorderly, but they had relatively clear regularity closely related to the grammatical meaning of prepositions.
