중국어 사전 사용 교육에 대한 연구 - 초급 중국어 학습자를 대상으로

A Study on Chinese Dictionary Skill Instruction - For beginner Chinese learners

사전 사용에 대해 교육을 받지 못한 학습자는 사전 사용법을 제대로 숙지하지 못한 경우가 많으며, 온라인 번역기가 보편화됨에 따라 제2언어 학습에서 사전 사용의 필요성을 느끼지 못하는 경우도 적지 않다. 그러나 여러 연구자가 학습자의 사전 사용 능력은 사전 사용의 경험 증가와 언어 능력 향상에 따라 저절로 습득되는 것이 아니며, 교육과 훈련을 통해 길러야 할 필요가 있다고 주장한 바 있다. 따라서 본고는 중국어 사전 사용 교육이 왜 필요한지, 교육을 통해 이루고자 하는 바는 무엇인지 그 필요성과 목적을 연구하였다. 그리고 중국어 사전 사용 교육의 내용을 ‘사전 유형의 이해와 사전 선택, 사전 검색법의 이해, 사전 구조의 이해와 정보 파악, 사전 표제항의 정보 해석, 사전을 활용한 학습법의 이해, 사전학 이론 및 사전 편찬 과정의 이해’ 6단계로 나누어 구체적으로 기술하고, 중국어 사전 사용 교육의 4가지 원칙을 제시하였다. 이를 토대로 초급 중국어 학습자를 대상으로 한 중국어 사전 사용 교육을 설계하여 실제 국내 대학의 중국어 수업에서 사전 사용 교육을 실시하고 학습자를 대상으로 설문조사를 진행하였다. 설문조사 결과 많은 학습자가 중국어 사전 사용법에 대한 체계적인 교육을 받지 못하였으며, 사전 사용법에 대해 구체적으로 알지 못한다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 그리고 대부분의 학습자가 사전 사용 교육이 유익했으며, 특히 몰랐던 사전의 기능과 여러 가지 검색 방법을 구체적으로 알게 되어 유익하다고 응답하였다. 마지막으로 다수의 학습자가 중국어 사전 사용 교육이 필요하다고 생각한다고 응답하였다. 본 연구의 결과는 중국어 교육에서 사전 사용 교육의 필요성을 일깨우고 사전 사용 교육의 체계를 세우는 데 도움이 될 것으로 기대한다.

Learners who haven’t received dictionary skill instruction do not fully understand often how to use a dictionary. With the use of online machine translators becoming more prevalent, many do not feel the need to use a dictionary in learning a second language. However, some researchers have argued that a learner's ability to use a dictionary is not naturally acquired in line with the increase in experience of dictionary use and the improvement in language fluency, but needs to be cultivated through education and training. Therefore, this study examined why Chinese dictionary skill instruction is necessary, as well as the need and the purpose of training. In addition, Chinese dictionary skill instruction is divided into 6 stages: 'understanding dictionary types and selecting a dictionary; understanding dictionary searching methods; understanding the structure of a dictionary and grasping information; interpreting information by dictionary headings; understanding learning methods with a dictionary; understanding lexicography theory and the compilation process of the dictionary', which are described in detail, presenting 4 principles of Chinese dictionary skill instruction. Based on this, this study planned and provided Chinese dictionary skill instruction for beginner Chinese learners in Chinese class at the nation’s university and then conducted a survey of the learners. According to the survey, many of the learners did not receive systematic training on how to use a Chinese dictionary, and they did not know how to use the dictionary in detail. In addition, most of the learners answered that the dictionary skill instruction was usefulm, in particular, because they could learn in detail the functions and the various searching methods of the dictionary they did not know. Lastly, a large number of learners answered that dictionary skill instruction was necessary. The results of this study are expected to awaken the need for dictionary skill instruction in Chinese education and help establish a dictionary skill instruction system.
