공주 수촌리 Ⅱ지점 8호분 출토누금형 금제이식의 재료적 특성 및제작기법 검토

A Study on the Material Characteristics and Manufacturing Techniques of Granulated Gold Earrings Excavated from Tomb No. 8 at Site II of Suchon-ri, Gongju

공주 수촌리에서 출토된 누금형 금제이식은 Ⅱ지점 8호분 출토품으로 자연과학적 분석 연구를 통해 제작기법과 재료적 특성을 파악하고자한다. 제작기법과 이식의 구조적 특성을 확인하기 위해 실체현미경과 X선을 활용하였으며, 재료적 특성인 금의 순도 등을 확인하기 위해 X선 형광분석(XRF)을 실시하였다. 해당 이식은 주환·유환·중간식·연결장식·끝장식으로 구성되며, 주환과 유환 모두 속이 빈 파이프형 구조로 반원통형 금판을 접합하여 제작되었다. 중간식의 소환연접구체와 끝장식에는 누금기법이 적용되었고, 특히 끝장식의 고리와 금구체 접합부에는금분말을 활용한 금납법이 사용된 것을 확인하였다. XRF 분석 결과, 금제이식의 금순도는 20.5~21.8K이다. 부위별로 1~2wt.% 내외의 금함량 차이가 확인되며, 특히 우측 유환은 90.89wt.%로 높은 금순도를 보였다. 주환(우), 유환(우)에서는 1wt.% 내외의 구리가 검출되는 등 합금 조성의 특징도 확인되었다. 본 금제이식은 정교한 세공기술을 보여주는 중요한 사례로, 백제 권역 내 타 지역 출토품과 구별되는 특징을 지닌 다. 특히 공주 수촌리 고분의 위상과 피장자의 신분을 상징적으로 드러 낸다.

The granulated gold ornament excavated from Tomb No. 8 at Area II of Suchon-ri, Gongju, was analyzed through scientific methods to investigate its manufacturing techniques and material characteristics. A stereomicroscope and X-ray imaging were employed to examine its structural features, while X-ray fluorescence(XRF) analysis was conducted to determine the purity of the gold and other material properties. The ornament is composed of a main ring, subsidiary ring, intermediate ornament, connecting decoration, and terminal ornament. Both the main and subsidiary rings were fabricated using a hollow pipe structure formed by joining semi-cylindrical gold sheets. Granulation techniques were applied to the small linked spheres of the intermediate part and to the terminal ornament. Notably, at the junction between the ring and the gold sphere in the terminal ornament, the use of keum-nap (a gilding technique employing gold powder) was confirmed. According to the XRF analysis, the gold purity of the earring ranges from 20.5 to 21.8 karats. Differences in gold content of approximately 1?2 wt.% were observed depending on the part, with the right subsidiary ring showing the highest purity at 90.89 wt.%. Trace amounts of copper (approximately 1 wt.%) were detected in the right main and subsidiary rings, indicating distinct alloy compositions. This gold ornament exemplifies the sophisticated metalworking skills of Baekje artisans and displays unique characteristics that distinguish it from similar artifacts found in other regions within the Baekje cultural sphere. In particular, it symbolically reflects the high status of the tomb occupant and the prominence of the Suchon-ri burial site.
