An Analysis of Semantic Relationships in Modern Chinese ‘V-Kai’

본고는 ‘V开’의 의미유형을 결과, 위치이동, 시작 의미로 구분하여, 의미연결망을 활용하여 상호관계를 논의하였다. 대부분의 방향보어는 위치이동, 결과, 시태 의미로 발전하는 반면, 방향보어 ‘开’는 결과, 위치이동, 시작 의미 순으ㄹ 발전했는데, 방향범주에서 동사 ‘开’의 원형성이 현저하게 낮기 때문이다. ‘V开’의 의미연결망에서는 ‘打开’는 결과적 상태로 ‘개방’ 의미 ‘분리·펼쳐짐·수용’ 및 ‘깨달음·분명함’의 의미로 확장되며, 위치이동 의미, 시작 의미로 확장하는 토대가 된다는 것을 설명하였다. ‘V开’의 위치이동은 ‘행위주체·대상의 이동’과 ‘확산’으로 구분되는데, 두 의미 모두 그릇 안에 내용물이 유출되어 힘의 방향으로 이동하는 상황으로 개념화할 수 있다. ‘V开’이 ‘행위주체·대상 이동’의 의미를 나타낼 때 행위자 또는 자연력 등이 촉발한 힘에 의해 행위주체 또는 대상이 원래 위치에서 멀어지는 상황에서 쓰인다. 반면, ‘V开’의 ‘확산’ 의미는 일반적인 위치이동과 달리 아이디어, 정보 등이 한 장소에서 다른 장소로 이동하여 공간적으로 널리 퍼지는 상황에서 쓰인다. ‘V开’의 ‘시작’ 의미는 ‘동작의 시작’과 ‘상태’의 시작으로 구분할 수 있으며, 그릇 밖으로 나온 내용물이 이동을 시작하는 시점이 강조된다. ‘V开’의 ‘시작’ 의미가 위치이동 의미와 상호 연결되는 것으 두 의미 모두 지속의 특징을 가지고 있기 때문이다. ‘V开’의 ‘시작’ 의미에 들어가는 동사는 신체부위와 관련이 있으며, 신체부위는 그릇과 대응되는 반면, 신체부위가 작용하는 기능은 내용물로 간주되면서 상호 대응과계를 이루고 있다.

The paper discusses the semantic types of the verb ‘开’(Kāi) in modern Chinese, classifying them into result, locational movement, and initiation meanings, and explores their interrelations. While most directional verbs evolve from locational movement, result, and state meanings, the directional verb “开” progresses in the order of result, locational movement, and initiation, primarily due to the low productivity of the verb’s base form in the directional category. In the semantic network of ‘V开’ (verbs with ‘开’), ‘打开’ (dǎkāi) expands into the result meaning of ‘openness’ encompassing the meanings of separation, unfolding, acceptance, as well as enlightenment and clarity, serving as a foundation for extension into locational movement and initiation meanings. The locational movement and initiation meanings of ‘V开’ are interconnected through metaphorical extensions. The locational movement of ‘V开’ is distinguished between the movement of agents or objects and diffusion, both conceptualized as situations where contents leak out of a container and move in the direction of force. When ‘V开’ signifies movement of agents or objects, it is used in situations where the agent or object moves away from its original position due to force exerted by the actor or natural forces. On the other hand, the diffuse meaning of ‘V开’ is used in situations where ideas, information, etc. spread widely from one place to another spatially in addition to four-way diffusion. The initiation meaning of ‘V开’ is distinguished between the initiation of action and the initiation of a state, emphasizing the point at which the content emerging from the container begins to move. The verbs associated with the ‘initiation’ meaning of ‘V开’ are related to body parts, with the body parts corresponding to containers. In conclusion, the two problems presented in the introduction were identified by presenting the semantic network of ‘V开’ and examining the internal relationship between various people based on this, and through this discussion, the semantic interrelationship of ‘V开’ can be confirmed.
