Objectives : In this paper, I analyze an acupunture text, the Source and Flow of Donggyo's Accupuncture 東郊鍼學源流 written by Jo, Chung Hyeon 趙忠顯 who was a Confucian scholar of late Joseon, to examine its content characteristics and medical historical significance. Methods : Firstly, bibliographical characteristics of the Source and Flow of Donggyo's Accupuncture was examined, to compare the similarities and differences between the Midnight-noon Ebb-flow Acupuncture Method as written in the text and as previously known. Next, clinical cases in the text were identified to analyze the acupuncture method's actual application. Results : The Source and Flow of Donggyo's Accupuncture is a specialized acupuncture medicine text of late Joseon. Here, the author Jo, Chung Hyeon, described the acupuncture medicine of Choi, Won Chun 崔元春 who was active during King Gojong's time. Through examining the text, it could be verified that medical specialists of the peninsula had actively adopted acupuncture methods in addition to the Midnight-noon Ebb-flow Acupuncture Method from the Introduction to Medicine 醫學入門 such as inserting methods or supplementing/draining methods. Conclusions : In late Joseon, acupuncture medicine from China such as the Midnight-noon Ebb-flow Acupuncture Method, introduced in early Joseon, and many others listed in Chinese Medical texts such as the Introduction to Medicine were competitively distributed and circulated alongisde domestic acupuncture medicine such as the Five Phase Acupuncture method.
