This descriptive study aimed to identify the effects of major satisfaction and self-leadership on career preparation behavior among nursing students. Data were collected from nursing students, and a total of 120 questionnaires were used for the final analysis. The data were analyzed using SPSS 22.0 with descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA with Scheffé post-hoc tests, Pearson’s correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis. The mean scores for major satisfaction, self-leadership, and career preparation behavior were 3.63±0.62, 3.66±0.53, and 3.38±0.64 out of 5, respectively. Major satisfaction showed significant positive correlations with self-leadership (r=.66, p<.001) and career preparation behavior (r=.62, p<.001), and self-leadership also showed a significant positive correlation with career preparation behavior (r=.72, p<.001). Career preparation behavior significantly differed according to the factors influencing major selection. Self-leadership (β=.53, p<.001) and major satisfaction (β=.28, p<.001) were identified as significant predictors of career preparation behavior, explaining 54.3% of the variance (F=71.63, p<.001). Therefore, efforts are needed to enhance the career preparation behavior of nursing students by focusing on the activation of curricular and extracurricular programs that promote self-leadership, developing instructional intervention programs, and providing opportunities to explore diverse career fields, thereby improving major satisfaction.
