惺臺 權丙勳의 『六書尋源』 部首의 分部 및 배열 원칙 고찰 - 許愼의 『說文解字』와 비교하여

A Study on the Classification and Arrangement Principles of Radicals in Yukseosimwon : In Comparison with Shuowen Jiezi

字典은 사전과 달리 한자문화권에만 존재하는 독특한 형식의 공구서이며, 이는 한자의 특성과 밀접한 관련이 있다. 字典 편찬에서 중요한 것은 수천자의 한자를 어떤 순서로 배열할 것인가이다. 許愼은 중국 최초의 字典 說文解字에서 처음으로 540개의 部首를 據形系聯’과 ‘引申類聚’의 원칙으로 배열하고, 9,353자를 각 部首에 歸屬시켰다. 이후 중국의 字書類는 필획 수에 따라 部首를 배열하고 部首의 수를 214개로 감소시켰다. 한반도에 한자가 유입된 이후 많은 시간이 지났지만, 구한말 시기에 이르러서야 權丙勳이 우리 고유의 字典인 六書尋源을 편찬하였다. 본고는 六書尋源의 특징을 구명하기 위하여 우선 說文解字와 六書尋源 部首의 分部 및 배열 원칙을 분석하고자 한다. 이를 통하여 六書尋源 部首의 分部 및 배열원칙에서의 특징을 이해하고, 六書尋源의 가치를 구명하고자 한다.

Unlike dictionaries, zidian (character dictionaries) are a unique type of reference work found only in the Chinese-character cultural sphere, and this is closely related to the characteristics of Chinese characters themselves. One of the most important tasks in compiling a zidian is determining the order in which thousands of characters will be arranged. In Shuowen Jiezi, China’s first character dictionary compiled by Xu Shen, 540 radicals were systematically arranged based on the principles of “grouping according to form similarity” (juxing xilian) and “semantic extension categorisation” (yinshen leiju), and 9,353 characters were classified under these radicals. Later, Chinese character dictionaries came to arrange radicals according to stroke count and reduced their number to 214. Although a long period had passed since the introduction of Chinese characters to the Korean peninsula, it was only in the late Joseon period that Gwon Byeong-hun compiled Yukseosimwon, Korea’s first indigenous character dictionary. This study aims to clarify the features of Yukseosimwon by first analysing the classification and arrangement principles of radicals in Shuowen Jiezi and Yukseosimwon. Through this analysis, it seeks to elucidate the unique characteristics of radical classification and arrangement in Yukseosimwon and to demonstrate its scholarly value.
