In Shuowon Jeizi, the 羊 radical contains a total of 26 letters, and excluding four letters, the remaining 22 letters have a variety of transfer letters from one to 22, referring to Taiwan’s Ministry of Education’s transfer letters’ dictionary. In this thesis, we conducted a study on the transfer letters of 羊 of Haeseo letters, the square style of Chinese handwriting, using ancient Chinese characters, and aimed to find the origins of some of the transfer letters through analysis results and identify the rules of change of 羊. First of all, transferring characters such as 羌 and 美 including radical 羊 were classified according to the similarity of the shapes and analyzed sequentially, and the rest of the transfer letters were analyzed separately. Through this analysis process, I compared the origin of the transfer letters and inferred the changing process of the transfer letters. In examining the origins of the transfer letters, some of those were found to have existed even in Pre-Qin Dynasty and in Warring States Period, much earlier than the origin suggested in Taiwan’s Ministry of Education’s transfer letters’ dictionary. The transfer letter of 羊, and ; and the transfer letter of 群, 羣 and , were found in the sources of Warring States Period and the transfer letter of 羊, , and the transfer letter of 美, were found in the sources of Han Dynasty. There were the seven transient rules of transfer letters: embellishment, the addition and substitution of meaning radicals, the substitution of sound radicals, elimination of strokes, assimilation, transmutation, the combination of the components from transfer letters and meaning radical 羊. Although it was limited to the analysis of 羊, it is expected that it will help to some extent study the process and rules of change of other transfer letters.
