본고는 本字 고찰의 관점에서, 이른 시기 한국어에서 ‘부주의로 인해 물건을 분실하다’의 의미를 나타내던 낱말인 ‘서실(<셔실, ‘閪失’로 표기됨)’와 ‘처음’ 등 낱말의 어근으로 쓰여 ‘최초’, ‘시작’ 등의 의미를 나타내는 형태소 ‘*처’에 대한 논의를 진행하였다. 문헌 자료에 나타난 의미와 용법, 한국한자음 음운 층위 대응 관계를 고려할 때, ‘서실’과 ‘*처’는 각각 뜻과 음이 모두 부합하는 한자어 ‘疏失’과 ‘初’에서 비롯되었다는 결론을 얻을 수 있었다.
This article figures out the original Characters of Sino-Korean words “Seo-sil” and “*Cheo”. “Seo-sil” is usually written as “閪失” in historical records of Chosen dynasty, and means “lost by carelessness”. “*Cheo” is a root of words which means “first” or “start” in Korean. According to the meaning of each character, historical records and the phonological correspondence, this article confirms that the original Chinese characters of “Seo-sil” and “*Cheo” are “疏失” and “初”.
