본 논문의 기술 목적은 제5기 黃組 갑골문에서 찾아낸 商族과 東夷 세력과의 충돌과 관련 한 내용들을 ‘天邑商’과 ‘征夷’ 텍스트를 중심으로 분석하려는 데 있다. 특히 이들 텍스트를 중국 중심의 역사관을 가진 학자들이 商의 東夷에 대한 일방적인 전쟁 승리 기록물로 보는 태도에 담긴 오류를 객관적 분석을 통해 바로잡으려는 데 기술 목적이 있다. 논문에서 특별히 제5기 黃組를 대상으로 한 것은 이 부분에 ‘天邑商’이라고 하는 이전에 등장하지 않았던 어휘 조합과 東夷와의 충돌만을 의미하기 위해 형성된 어휘 조합 ‘征夷’가 나타나고 있어 연계 분석이 필요하기 때문이다. 갑골문 텍스트 분석을 통해 본 논문은 새로운 역사적, 문화적 진실을 읽어낼 수 있었다. 그리고 이 진실을 근거로 고대문헌 속의 ‘紂克東夷’의 내용을 새롭게 읽어낼 수도 있다. 즉, 商은 東夷의 커다란 위협에 직면했었고 국면 타개를 위해 주술적 조치로는 ‘天邑商’을 물리적 조치로는 ‘征夷’ 행동을 진행했다는 점이다. 물론 ‘征夷’ 행동 속에도 ‘從囗(國의 初文)從止’의 ‘正’ 글꼴을 통해 정치종교적 기원은 담겨 있었다. 그리고 이들 기록 어디에서도 商의 최종승리를 판단할 수 있는 근거는 존재하지 않는다는 점도 확인했다. 사실, 중국의 갑골학자들 중 일부가 자기중심적으로 기술된 역사서 쓰기의 연장선에서 사용된 ‘克’의 동사를 아무런 비판 없이 받아들이고 제5기 갑골문 ‘征夷’ 텍스트를 읽었기에 ‘最終勝利’의 판결을 아무런 근거 없이도 내릴 수 있었을 것이다. 그리고 이 과정은 商의 帝辛, 즉 紂가 정치종교적 레토릭으로 ‘天邑商’과 ‘征’을 도입했던 과정과 닮아 있다고 하겠다. 중국중심의 史觀이 일관되게 반복되고 있음이 여기서 다시 확인된다.
Central to this paper is a hypothesis which states that there were conflicts between Shang(商) and Dongyi(東夷), not a one-sided victory over Dongyi(東夷) as Chinese scholars claim to be. Based on the Oracle-Bone Inscriptions of the 5th Period Huangzu(黃組), there are about sixty more texts of war stories between Shang(商) and Dongyi(東夷) written by Shang(商) archives. The archives use the word ‘zheng(正), conquer’, as they wish for a victory. The Chinese scholars interpret the word ‘zheng(正)’ as victory, but it was a word of wishfulness, not the outcome of the war. This paper also focuses on a word combination Tianyishang(天邑商), the Shang city of heaven which appears only once during the whole Shang Dynasty. The sudden appearance of Tianyishang(天邑商) indicates that Tianyishang(天邑商) faced a big threat from the Dongyi(東夷), and wanted to protect their capital city with the divine power of heaven. In this context, I argue that Dongyi(東夷) occupied the territory of Shang(商) and also threatened the capital city, that was the reason why Shang(商) continuously tried to attack the Dongyi(東夷). Oracle-Bone Inscriptions of the 5th Period Huangzu(黃組) plainly states that there was an absence of Shang(商)’s final victory over Dongyi(東夷).
