Almost all of the Chinese grammar books and textbooks believe that “DE” must be used when a phrase modifies nouns, and the verbal Coordinate phrase is no exception. But this view can not be supported by the language facts. In Contemporary Chinese there are a lot of “(V+V) N”, the phrase of modifier-modified structure in which a coordinate phrases do attribute directly and it can not be explained as an exception. “N” in “(V+V) N” is generally a two-syllable noun and most of “V+V” are coordinate phrases that are formed by more than two one-syllable verb or two-syllable verb. Semantic relationships between the “V+V” and “N” are complex and diverse and can be divided into several types. “(V+V) N” is often used to not only the title sentence, but also free for the sentence's subject, object, attributive position. Its structure is very compact and its significance is very concise, so its expression role can not be replaced by “(V+V) +DE+N”. But its composition must meet certain conditions, so it is not as good as “(V+V) +DE+N” in free combination.
