The Sixian(四縣) dialect and the Hailu(海陸) dialect are the most widely used ones among Taiwanese sub-Hakka dialects. The unique sub-Hakka dialect, the Sihai(四海) dialect, is newly formed through the mixture of the Sixian(四縣) dialect and the Hailu(海陸) dialect. It was not until 10 years that the existence of the dialect was recognized. Therefore it can be said that the study of the dialect is also just started. Even though the term of the Sihai(四海) dialect was not used, its phonological elements can be found in Yang, Shifeng's Taoyuan Hakka dialect in Taiwan(臺灣桃園客家方言), which studied the Sixian(四縣) dialect and the Hailu(海陸) dialect in 1950s. The Sixian speakers adopted the [□, □h, □] of the Hailu(海陸) dialect at the Zhizang(知章) initials, which have been continually used until now. They have borrowed the [□] of the Hailu(海陸) dialect as well that is not originally included in the phonological inventory of Sixian dialect. There are 14 different final pairs between the Sixian(四縣) dialect and the Hailu(海陸) dialect. The phonological phenomena of the Sihai(四海) dialect already happened in the 5 final pairs of [ï/i, eu/au, u/iu, ïp/ip, ït/it] in 1950s. The phonological elements of the Sihai(四海) dialect have been spread out to the 9 final pairs of [i/ui, ie/ai, ieu/iau, eu/iau, ieu/au, ïm/im, ien/an, iet/at,ïn/in] in addition. It is a very interesting aspect that the Sixian speakers and the Hailu speakers have kept their mother tongue's tones respectively even though initials and finals are mixed in the Sihai(四海) dialect.
