청소년소설에 나타난 공동체의 해체와 재생성의 양상 - 2010년대 이후 한국 청소년소설을 중심으로

The Disintegration and Regeneration of Community in Young Adult Fictions - Focusing on Korean Young Adult Fictions since the 2010s

본 연구는 소설과 공동체의 상관성을 바탕으로, 2010년대 이후의 한국 청소년소설에 나타나는 ‘공동체의 해체’ 및 탈주, 재생성의 의미를 분석하였다. 먼저, 시대에 따라 사회의 공동체 형상이 문학 내에서 어떻게 변화하며 반영되었는지 살피기 위해, 근대기부터 2010년대까지의 소설 중에서 공동체와 인물의 관계가 잘 드러난 텍스트들을 분석하였다. 그 결과, 1980년대 이전의 한국 청소년소설은 국가 이데올로기와 개인의 삶이 일치하는 전형적인 서사가 주류였으나, 1990년대 이후에는 이러한 민족·국가의 거대 담론은 사라지고, 청소년 세대의 사적 욕망과 청소년을 건강한 시민으로 육성하려는 국가의 기획된 의도가 다중적으로 소설에 재현되고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 특히 본 연구가 주목하는 것은 2010년대 이후 한국 청소년소설에서 보이는 공동체의 해체 현상으로, 사회의 정상 범주를 이탈하는 청소년들과 그들이 연대하여 공동체 없는 공동체를 형성해 가는 서사들이 등장한다는 점이다. 분석 대상인 『야만적인 앨리스씨』와 『원통 안의 소녀』는 최근의 한국문학 장에서 주목받는 작품들로, 타자와 공동체의 새로운 관계를 예리하게 제시하고 있다. 작품분석을 통해, 동일성으로 무장한 공동체의 폭력과 이에 부 적응하는 현대 청소년들의 실존적 고뇌를 살필 수 있었고, 공동체를 해체하려는 이들의 능동적인 움직임과 새로운 유형의 연합을 발견할 수 있었다. 작품의 분석 결과는 우리 사회의 구조적인 문제를 시사하며, 중심 바깥에 존재하는 소외된 계층에 시선을 옮기게 하고, 사회의 변화를 구상하게 한다.

This study analyzes the themes of the ‘disintegration of community’ and the notions of escape and regeneration in Korean young adult Fictions since the 2010s, based on the interrelation between fiction and community. First, to examine how the notion of community in society has evolved and been reflected in literature over time, novels from the modern era through the 2010s - selected for their clear portrayal of relationships between character and community - were analyzed. The analysis revealed that prior to the 1980s, Korean young adult fiction predominantly featured narratives in which national ideology coincided with individual lives. However, since the 1990s, such grand nation-centered discourses have vanished, and novels instead began to simultaneously depict the personal desires of youth and the state’s subtle intentions to cultivate them as healthy citizens. In particular, this study focuses on the phenomenon of community disintegration in post-2010 young adult fiction, where youths who deviate from societal norms form new types of communities through their solidarity. 『The Savage Alice』 and 『The Girl in the Cylinder』, analyzed in this study, are notable contemporary novels that delicately portray new relationships between the Other and community. In these novels, we can observe the violence inherent in communities fortified by homogeneity and the existential anguish of modern youths who fail to conform, as well as the youths’ active efforts to dismantle such communities and forge new types of alliances. These findings suggest structural problems in our society, shifting attention to marginalized groups outside the mainstream and prompting contemplation of social change.
